2009 Saturn Aura, dead instrument cluster !

I am working on a 2009 Saturn Aura XE

Brakes needed major work ... done!

While bleeding the brakes, I noticed the dash was dead ...no tach, no speedo, no lights ... dead.

I know it was working when I drove the car over.

Here is the strange part .... I pulled the cluster/theft fuse .... it was good ...put it back in and the cluster worked!

Next morning it was dead again.

Pulled and put the fuse back in nothing ...

Pulled and checked the Body Control Module fuse (in the engine compartment) ... again fuse was good and cluster came back to life!

Two hours later ... it is dead again.

I pulled both fuses ... they are OK ... put them back in ... still the panel is dead.

When I put the key in and turn it, I do see the car with the lock symbol light up and the check engine light comes on ... but the rest of the panel is dead

I am lost!

Any suggestions ?????

I found this post on your site : www.scannerdanner.com/forum/post-your-re...-crank-no-start.html

Is this a complete wiring diagram? Is there really only 4 wires going to the cluster?

I don't see the fuse in the diagram ... I don't see ground.

I also don't understand ... there are two wires for data coming out of the instrument cluster (DK GRN) ... but on page one the data lines are tan and tank/blk

Just FYI ... no error codes, scanner just says can't communicate when I try to talk with the instrument cluster.

Thanks ... Mike

That is a redrawn aftermarket engine controls diagram for the 2008 MY. Not a complete vehicle wiring diagram and might not be 100% accurate. Also possible, but unlikely, that it isn't applicable to the 2009 MY.

All it covers re. the IPC is how it interfaces with the engine controls. Hardwired MIL and everything else over GMLAN. And I wouldn't sweat the GMLAN wiring being shown as different colors at the ECM and IPC. There's likely to be other modules and or splices between the two. And it's aftermarket so colors might not be correct anyways.

First off could you have done anything to cause the issue working on the vehicle? If not call the vehicle owner and see what they say. Cluster might of been acting up for a while.

If you do have to dig deeper OEM SI is your best bet and also probably the cheapest.

Thanks. The panel had never acted up before. It worked for me when I got the car to work on the brakes ... ever touched anything electrical ... just brakes.

The only time I was inside the car was to bleed the brake lines ... the only thing I touched was the steering wheel (I did move it "up" .. tilting wheel) but I moved it up and down since to check for a short ... no changes.

Either the panel has died ... or a short in the wiring.

I need to get a schematic for the car ... Maybe a Haynes manual as they usually have a schematic in the back.

Thanks so much !!!!!!!!
