2016 Nissan rogue P2096 issue was created by darrylmiller
Hello, I recently bought a used 2016 AWD Nissan rogue SV from a Nissan dealership with 24,000km on it, it has an L4, 2.5L engine and I have had it for about 10 days. I am in Northern Ontario. The car seems to be running normal with no strange sounds (although it is going through gas faster than expected for a 4 cylinder engine (getting about 440km on a full tank, 90% highway travel). This is the third time the engine light has come on with the same P2096 - Post catalyst fuel trim system too lean bank 1.
I have taken it to the dealership twice, first time they went over it and founding nothing - They cleared the code but light came back on after 150km. Second time they had it for 3 hours pulled the O2 sensor and it tested fine (checked a bunch of other things and still found nothing). I scanned it again before the check engine light came on and this time there was nothing stored as a permanent fault (the first time it was still logged as a permanent fault even after they cleared it). So, I thought the problem was gone. Today it came back on 240km since it was reset. Same code. I have a freeze frame report but aloy of these numbers I don't understand. Looking for some input to see if anything seems off that would be causing this.
Thank you!
Edit: There was alot of electrical codes that seem to be gone now, I have also attached 2 other files from my blue driver. The one from January 23rd has all the electrical faults, the latest scan from January 30th has only 4 codes.

If you haven't already, check out this thread:

A dealership tech came up against the same code on a '15 Murano. Different platform and engine, I know, but the strategy is the same.
Lots of good info in there.
Will your BlueDriver look at OEM scan data? We'd be interested in the upstream A/F voltage, downstream O2 voltage, Alpha and A/F ADJ. A/F ADJ in particular. It's my experience that the A/F ADJ PID is the one that the ECM uses to set this code. Normal values are -.1 to +.1. Most newer Nissan's I've looked at hover around -.030. We know you likely don't have a fuel trim/Alpha issue based on the scan data, but I'd suggest watching that PID anyway.
Exhaust leaks, even pinholes, really screw with the downstream fuel control strategy. Just listening for leaks isn't good enough. I usually pressurize the exhaust with a few PSI of shop air and use soapy water around all joints/welds/flanges.

Yep, this is usually a tiny hole som where before the downstream o2. I had one a couple of weeks ago where you could not hear a leak at all and I was only able to find the leak by pressuring the exhaust with the smoke tool. On a low evap setting I couldn't find it either. Ended up being a gasket, but you wouldn't have known without that method. These can be tough to find.

Thanks for the input guys. My bluedriver does not have capability to scan OEM scan data. The dealership did have me back into to keep the car overnight so they could get a longer look at it. Turns out the catalytic converter was the problem. They are replacing it free because it is covered by an extended 8 year warranty on emissions components from Nissan. If the check engine light comes back on after that then maybe it could still be the ECM as mentioned in the post about the 2015 Murano.

Was the catalytic converter the fix for this one?

Yeah, I'm interested to know too. I wonder if there was a leak on the pipe, and replacing it was a warranty deal because the convertor was part of the pipe, or if the convertor itself was bad, which I have not seen.
