2002 Ford Explorer V6 4.0L No start, possible fuel pump was created by joshuamal
This 2002 Ford Explorer cranks but doesn’t start. I’m suspecting a bad fuel pump, I see check engine light on dash as when you are cranking it, have spark but when key on, I can’t hear the pump turning on. If someone can provide me a schematic of the fuel pump system for it, I’ll greatly appreciate it. The owner thought it had a bad alternator and removed the ground cable of the battery to see if it will cut off, when he said that, I explained you are not to be doing that as the pcm must be seeing the inputs and sending outputs. Not sure if this will have a fuel pump module or not, please someone provide me the complete fuel system electrical schematic and also, could you send me the spec for the pump psi? Not sure if this would have an access to get to the pump without removing the tank. Thanks for your help.

No FPDM, it's a mechanical returnless with regulator in the tank. Make sure the inertia switch is not open. And do the test at the relay and see if a test light connected to battery positive will find a ground through the fuel pump motor, that's always neat
Oh and ScannerDanner approved pound the gas tank lol.

Thanks for that information given. On the test light connected to battery positive, are you checking the load side of relay to verify a possible ground issue? I forgot to ask, where is the inertia switch on this vehicle?

The wiring diagram says "base of right A pillar" That's below where your right reverse mirror is, inside the car, dig around under right side of the glove box lol.

Yes. The fuel pump motor has a constant ground. If you can't get the test light to find a ground from the relay box, through the inertia switch, through the fuel pump motor, through the motor winding, then you know something's broke along the way. This would reinforce your diagnosis there's no noise coming from the pump.joshuamal wrote: On the test light connected to battery positive, are you checking the load side of relay to verify a possible ground issue?

quick test for fuel... hook up your pressure gauge to the rail then turn on the key. Check psi. Any movement in psi... your pump is active. 39-65psi is the specs.

Being wrong doesn't bother me, it's being right and not understanding why that does
