Don't beat yourself up! You are NOT the first person to make this mistake. DIYers and professional shops alike have been getting screwed by this JTEC/NGC thing for years.
Oh, speaking of! I just remembered a ScannerDanner video that dealt with a similar situation:
IMO, with all the time/effort you'd invest in moving reluctors around, you'd be better off just finding the correct engine.
