Check it out:

All kinds of additions, like a fuel pump module, variable valve lift, wideband sensors... I'm not due to recertify for another couple years, but I kinda wish I WAS due so I could take this test! :cheer:

I already have my copy. I plan on taking the L1 test for the first time soon. Any tips?

Jealous! And you'll be fine B) Have you done the computer based testing yet?

Dunno if you do five-gas testing, but that was the only area I really needed help with, as Kansas has no emissions testing.

I've got the motor age test prep book. I got them when I took the a6 and a8, and they were helpful.
Not quite ready to tackle the l1 yet.

Yes I have, I just took a couple of recerts last year.

The place I used to work at a couple of years ago I used to do emission testing but most were obd2 tests. I will have to find a place to brush up on that. I don't do emission testing at my current place. I just mainly diag obd2 failures, the tire/lube boys do the actual testing.

Massachusetts doesn't do tail pipe emissions anymore.
CEL - Fail!

Unless the car is 15 years or older, then it's just safety.

Yeah, there's not many left that have zero testing, most at least have an OBD check  I do sometimes wish we'd legislate at least safety testing, 'cause I KNOW there are people driving around with tie rods ready to pop.

From what I understand, Florida has NOTHING!
No inspection stickers at all!

Just took the new L1 test today. It wasn't has bad as I thought it would be and I did better than I expected. It was my first attempt so I can't compare it to the previous version, other than that it was a good experience.

Congratulations! I also kinda felt like the test was easier than it was built up to be. Instructors were telling me they failed it multiple times, tricky A/B questions, stuff like that. Maybe that was associated with older versions of the test?

I say if anyone is thinking about taking it, don't hesitate :cheer:

Thanks,
I agree, didn't seem as difficult as hyped. But a good understanding of electrical systems and basic engine performance will help.

That's good to hear. I've been putting it off because I don't know 5 gas theory well. I got good scores on the A8 engine performance and the A6 electrical systems, but the L1 intimidates me a bit more.

Noah. Take it. I guarantee you pass it.
As for 5 gas. Just go through my Section or Chapter 5 lecture where I cover it (SD Premium). It's all you need to know about it.
Which gas is your rich indicator?
Which gas is your lean indicator?
What gases can you look at as a stand alone and know which side of stoich your on? Things like that I covered.
I forget what page of my book corresponds.

You will also need to know what causes excessive NOx on the composite vehicle and in general

I also purchased the L1 practice test here: L1 practice test

No worries about the five-gas stuff! When I took the L1, I had zero gas analyzer experience (no emissions testing). The theory alone was more than enough to get me through.

That's the one I've got. I used the same site for the A6 and A8 study material. I've had good experiences with the Motor-age products.

Aww Hell, I'll give it a go. I need to just schedule a date. I'll be more motivated with a deadline.
Thanks for the encouragement Paul and Tyler
And congratulations on passing Ro-longo! I always stress the tests until I get in there and start answering questions.

YIKES!
I forgot about the $36 registration fee! I guess it's not bad if you're intending to take multiple tests, but I only ever schedule one at a time. Brings it up to $114 to schedule the test.
For that kind of money, they should come to my house and sew the patch on my coat for me!
Maybe the boss will split this one with me...
