Looking in the component test it shows coil test and ignition primary and never mentions needing an attenuator. It presets the voltage scale to 100 volts. Maybe they just put the 50v max to keep people from trying to hook it up to 110v AC

Bruce, I don't know about this particular tool, but coil primaries can spike over 400 volts and injectors 100 volts or more, so if it was my tool, I would use an attenuator just to be safe. As far as I know, there really isn't a downside to using the attenuator when it is not needed, so better to be safe than sorry.
