Car-Part.com

I use this site at work when I'm away from a computer terminal
to get an an idea about parts interchangeability. Like "will this 04 Crown Victoria master window switch fit an 05 Expedition, or should i keep looking?"

It's not going to come right out and give you interchange info like Hollander or Fastparts, but it does list the inventory of your search area based on the Hollander interchange number of the part your search for, so if it's listed, it fits your application.

Can't find a crankshaft position sensor for a 1999 chrysler 300m with 3.5 high output v6. None will fit in the hole.

Car-part.com is for used parts. There's generally no interchange for sensors and switches in this end of the industry since that stuff is cheap and easy to get brand new. Not to mention the labor to remove (and most likely break) sensors makes it labor-to-cost prohibitive to sell them used.
That is a strange issue though. Those cars aren't as common as they used to be, but there should still be plenty of new parts available.

None of the new parts from the parts stores will fit in the hole. I contacted a Chrysler dealer and it would not fit in the hole. The car was from Daimler AG in 1999.

Are you positive of the year? Not nit picking, but I see that a lot.
It's important to go by the VIN on the dashboard only and not the sticker on the door.
Cars can be built up to 2 years before the release of the "model year". Your car could display a mfg. date of Aug '99 for example and be a 2000.
The tenth digit of the VIN will be X if it's a 1999.
If the tenth digit is Y, it's a 2000. The part number for a 2000 is 4609153AB. The diamter of that sensor is 0.740 according to Rockauto.com

All data lists the oem part number for a 1999 as 4609009
The Airtex one n Rock Auto claims the sensor body is diameter is 0.720.
Do you have a micrometer? You could measure the old sensor or the hole it lives in (assuming you can get in there with a micrometer or something).

I measured the hole with a micrometer. It is.6860. The 99 sensor from Advance is .730. They measured every sensor they had for other cars and none would fit. The engine came out of a wrecked 1999 and put into a 2004. I measured the hole from the bad 2004 engine and it measured the same. Thanks

Wow, that's peculiar...
And you're talking about the sensor that's on the engine block by the transmission bell housing, correct?
The camshaft sensor I believe is of similar design but smaller diameter.

Yes. I checked out the harness from the connector to the computer with a multimeter on both the cam and crank. I took one of the crank sensors I bought from Advance and sanded down the plastic so it would fit in the hole. Still doesn't start right. Once it started it idled a long while and I tried to take it around the block and it shut off four times before I could back. It seems to start and act the same without the sensor.

So it runs with no sensor installed? It may be advantageous to open a repair thread of your own . Can you maybe get a picture of where the sensor is located and a good description of what's going on with the car and what has been done?

Good idea Ben, thanks.
If you do figure out what's going on with these crank sensors, please be sure to post it up. I've seen some strange stuff when swapping in used Chrysler engines, be but this is a new one for me.
