Hi Everyone,
My name is Isaac and I am from the Caribbean, Trinidad and Tobago to be exact. I am primarily interested in auto electrical diagnostics and repair because where I am from, there just isn't many good mechanics. My Dad's car has been my the mechanic for over a year because of mistakes by the techs and that has been the story of my automobile experiences. I hope eventually to open a shop that really saves people money, values their time and solves their problems economically and correctly the first time so that myself and others will never have to experience wasting thousands of dollars to not have our problems fixed. Finding good mechanics in my country is very difficult for many reasons including:
1. Lack of quality training institutions - No one has an idea to use scopes, and bore cameras and even the scanners appropriately. The approach generally is to replace all components one by one until the problem is solved.
2. Lack of passion by Techs - I have never seen a tech use a schematic or wiring diagram or a resource such as alldata or iatn. They just scan codes and that's as good as it gets locally. I want to master the field and do it with others in my nation.
3. Lack of tools - I have never seen a mechanic use a lab scope or bore scope to diagnose problems. Some only have a cheap scanner that does not have manufacturer's data on codes.
My country imports a lot of used cars from Europe, Singapore and Japan and these vehicles routinely need repairs and diagnostics but no one seems to have the know how. I think there is a massive demand in my nation for this, no exaggeration and youtube has shown me that mechanics do not have to guess. There is a method to follow! I hope to use this resource to firstly become the top diagnostics guy in my city (very small city) by the end of the year and then take it from there.
One problem I have is that I do not have much money to by the scopes and scanners needed. If anyone can suggest a scope, scanner, etc...help me put together a basic toolkit for electrical diagnostics that will not cost more than 4k USD that can handle europen and asian vehicles mainly Toyota, Nissan, Hyundai, Mitsubishi, Suzuki, Kia, BMW and VW vehicles it would be a great help. I am excited to start learning from you all but also intimidated by the demand for this service that might overwhelm me in the beginning.
Much Love
Isaac

Welcome to the community Issac!
It sounds like you are motivated to learn, and that's really what it takes.
It can be discouraging when you don't have a "real world" support system. I share your frustration when it comes to lack of competent peers.
Scanner Danner Premium and this forum are the next best thing.
You can do some reading around in the Diagnostic Tools & Techniques section to get an idea of what people are using for scanners and scopes, and don't be afraid to ask questions.
