Specializing? EEC-VI no spark part 3

First off, very happy with this series overall. Definitely got something out of the diagnosis, even though Paul was trying to keep things simple for the new students.

Paul's comments near the end of the video, about specializing in SOMETHING, got me thinking. For the record, I do not currently specialize in one field or another. I consider electrical and driveability to be one of my strengths, absolutely, but not necessarily my specialty.

I wanted to survey the membership around here, and get your thoughts. Do you specialize in a particular area of auto repair? If so, does that mean you do _____ work and nothing else? Has specialization improved your career or earning ability? Not taking issue with Paul's point, just exploring the idea further. Thanks!

I work purely on troubleshooting, driveability, in-house training and auto electrics.
It definitely increases earning potential BUT personal (time studying systems and new technology)and financial investment increases incrementally as well.

Well, in my long career (going on 30 years) I have done a lot of different things. I have been an "under car specialist" as Paul describes. I made a lot of money doing that. The past few years I have been mostly doing troubleshooting. I feel the experience I have learned from having experience in multiple areas has helped me now that I don't do steering and suspension work anymore with now being the "lead" tech at the shop I work at. And I am also learning how to diag diesel now. So I have multiple feathers in hat hat so to speak. Makes me an even more valuable asset.
