I have used it successfully once to find a short.
The next time I need it, I'll use it in conjunction with my power probe 4 and the piercing leads.
There's a setting on the pp4 that recognizes the output of the circuit tracer. It might be easier then waving the magic wand around.
I've thought of using it with my scope too to look for the waveform generated by the circuit tracer at various points in the circuit.

It's actually a commercial video from their website. So not really that informative.
Here's one with some more info on how to use it.

I too have a pp4. I think it only works with a short and not an open. Or the other way around? I'm not sure now.
Can you post a pic of your work Robert?

That makes sense. Any signal generated would be pulled to ground with a short.matt.white wrote: Haha mine keeps a part of a drawer liner really clean!

in as much as my ECT 2000 is sitting idly in my toolbox, I decided to make the 12 ft long cable as an 12V extension cord of sort...(straight forward)...refer to attached picture
1. unsrew the back cover of transmitter; desolder the black and red wire from the inside the transmitter's circuit board ;
2. from the tip of the desoldered red and black wire, I soldered a red male plug into the red wire and a black male plug to the black wire; this will serve as your extension cord;
3. in place of the desoldered red and black wire in the circuit board, solder in its place a a short red and black wire respectively;
4. drill a hole big enough to fit in a female plug for the red and black tip of your converted extension cord; solder in the red short to the red female plug and black wire to the black female plug. The purpose of doing this is to make your transmitter still a functional one in case you decide to use it.

Anyone can post a scope image (preferably picoscope) of the signal levels that this smart transmitter is sending out?
I want to know with no load and with 10 ohm load.
Thank`s!
