They are changing their businesss model to a Netflix style service, why they choose to do it in such a chaotic unbusiness like fashion is a mystery. You may have also noticed the advertising they insert in to videos has also changed it is now intrusive to the point it severly disrupts content. Google seem to have an attitude that users and providers don't matter witness their recent discontinuation of Picasa and they re not the only web service provider with the same disdain for users the recent changes at Photobucket have cause a loss of stored pictures for a huge number of web users.
