2008 MERCEDES BENZ CLK350

Body shop let my battery die from sitting. Lots of warnings on the instr. cluster and "no communication" code. Ironically everything works but specifically the temp gauge is stuck on highest mark and then, after startup, I get a red warning light to stop car.....and yet everything works fine and car is not overheating. Is this a possible relay?? Or? Not certain why the red light coming on when system is cooling/aux fan/a/c all work fine. Once the red warning light comes on, as with all mercedes but in my case, I cannot operate cruise control nor can I drop the convertible top.

i did purcahse a used instrument cluster and tried it, but I have the same issue.....no tachometer, no speedometer, temp reading is at the top and I have my reserve gas guage light is on, but fuel guage woks otherwise.

any direction would be appreciated. I did check many fuses but all clean. Car has original 111,000 miles

Thanks

Can you perform a full system scan and report the results? Did you configure the "new" used cluster?

You may want to check the engine temperature sensor and related wiring.

An expert is someone who knows each time more on each time less, until he finally knows absolutely everything about absolutely nothing.

THANKS FOR THE REPLY.

I will be taking it to my Mercedes mechanic to do a more sophisticated scan here shortly as my scanner just states "no communication with instrument cluster"

I am also trying to check the temperature sensor and related wiring as you suggested but I have to identify the sensor location first. There are other warning lights on the dash as well, but it is the temp gauge and red warning light that relates directly to coolant/engine temp.

I will follow up when I take it in for the scan.

Thanks again for the reply.

Sorry, in answer to your question about whether I configured the replacement instrument cluster, the answer is no, mainly because I received the same result as with the original cluster. Once I take it to my mechanic, I will have a better idea of direction to go and will update.

Thanks again
