I've got a problem child I've been battling for a little while. Every step forward seems like a step backwards. It's a 94 crown vic police interceptor with a 64 ford truck body. From what I've gathered, it's a 94 block with newer sohc heads and apparently a camshaft of unknown specs. The vehicle came to me running very rough. You need to feather the gas to keep it running, it backfires and sputters going down the road and can barely get out of it's own way. Egr has been disabled and it had a very crude exhaust and intake set up. Several checks were made early on. Mass air flow was check with a meter and it was flat line, it bench tested the same. I put a new maf in and it made it run worse. Intake was smoked and no leaks were found. Someone had wired the tps in there backwards, that was fixed. Didn't run any better. I found the temp sensor wasn't reading at all, changed that with no difference. Valve covers were pulled and found a ton of slack in one of timing chains. we removed the timing cover and found one of the tensioners could be very easily depressed by hand and the guides had a fair amount of wear. Replaced chains, tensioners and guides and still ran the same. Scoping out ignition and fuel injectors I found one bad injector and every once in a while I would only get one spark event out of the ICM. I'd see one ramp up and one voltage drop then nothing. Sometimes it would be a single time while sometimes it would do it 2 or 3 times in a row. I looked at the crank sensor and compared it to the pip and didn't see anything abnormal. Spout unplugged and noticed no difference. I tried a good used ICM and no change. I think i'm overly frustrated at this point. I've never used a scope until this vehicle but spent some time with the scanner danner book and watching videos of waveforms and trying to understand what i'm looking at and feel I have a better grasp. With a vehicle like this i'm not too upset with myself for replacing the things I have, as they were obviously faulty but not the root of the issue here. My understanding is only a few things will cause a spark to not occur, ICM, PCM spout, or ckp. I've attached a picture of the the last time I scoped it. Tomorrow i'll hook up to the same coil trigger wire and compare that to the ckp, pip and spout signals. I was looking to get it all out and hopefully gather some insignt on how these systems work and what I might be over looking.
