Short answer is because of your scope and its settings.

The whole waveform is inverted, you can see this also when the coil is turned on. The firing voltage seems to reach around 8 to 10 kV, as you kV/div shows 10kV. You may get confused by the long spike that looks like a normal firing event/break dow voltage but probably is just an interference/fly back. Otherwise you´d have more than 35kV and this coul not make for the 2 ms burntime.

It looks like you are using a hantek scope and it might not be up to the task. Make sure you did not select the invert feature.
