Hello, I need help diagnosing my brothers 2004 350Z 6spd manual.
Short Version:
No codes
Idles smooth
Accelerates fine up to 4000rpm
At 4000rpm the engine sputters and stalls
Normal fuel trims at idle
High fuel trims (+25%) at 3500rpm
I can only red line the engine it I stomp on the accelerator as soon as the engine starts
Vehicle will not drive forward but can reverse with no issue
Fuel pump is only 3 months old (brand new Delphi pump)
Current Suspects: Fuel pump, Throttle body, Accelerator pedal, VVT
His complaint was lack of power with no codes, I did some testing, it will not rev above 4000rpm, at 4000rpm it will bog and stall, idles smooth. I looked at the fuel trims, normal at idle, pegged positive at 3500rpm (the highest I can maintain without stalling), so I suspected a dirty MAF. I pulled the MAF and it is clean, at this point I did not do any scope voltage testing because I could not get the vehicle to true WOT. So with a clean MAF I checked exhaust back pressure and found nothing, while preforming the back pressure test I found that if I stomped on the accelerator as soon as the car started I could get it to red line and I could maintain rpms above 4000 so long as I did not let the rpm dip below 4000. Now that I was able to get the engine to WOT I got a scope reading off of the MAF
Now I'm stuck, so I decided to try and drive the car around the block with some scan data up to give me some clues. The car will NOT drive forward, every forward gear almost immediately stalls, however I can accelerate like mad in reverse (I was able to get up to 30MPH in reverse before I got too nervous).
I ran out of time so this is as far as I have gotten, but I am at a loss. I want to go back later this week and get some more captures (mostly scan data), a fuel pressure test, and possibly do some checks on the VVT system but I am not sure what to check for other than powers and grounds to the VVT solenoids.
Any help is much appreciated.
