Clearing B1650 occupant classification system was created by timothy.spencer
Anyone have any advice about clearing code B1650, occupant classification system? Vehicle is a 2005 Pontiac Vibe. An SUV hit me from behind last week. Rear bumper and rear hatchback door damaged. Scanning the vehicle for codes, I'm getting a B1650 occupant classification system code. No airbags deployed during the crash, just the light on the dash is on. Also the 'door open indicator' light on the dash is staying on, even with all of the doors closed. I tried clearing the B1650 code with my Autel scanner and it went out for about a second and came right back on.

Before going too deep into diagnostics, I'd suggest a visual inspection under the passenger seat for any obvious damaged wires or disturbed connectors. Are all of the seat bolts tight? Any bent brackets or hardware? Paint popped loose?
Service information does mention a Passenger Presence System Rezeroing associated with a number of conditions, including a collision.
You can see if your Autel is capable. Keep in mind that service information is specific about how this procedure should be performed, and for verifying correct calibration afterwards. Follow their instructions and do not deviate from them. It's on you to repair this system correctly.
Service information is available for cheap at Mitchell 1 DIY:

Thanks. I'll check that out. A quick look under the seat didn't reveal any obvious problems, but I'll look again more closely. That's good info.

Update: I connected my Autoenginuity scanner and it does not give me the option to do a zero point calibration. I tried my little HT200 Autel scanner and it displays a messages stating the ECU does not support this function, when I try to use the Airbag service function. When I scan the 2005 Pontiac Vibe as a 2005 Toyota Matrix, I get code B1785 & B1650. From reading my Mitchell1 data, it seems a zero point calibration is what is recommended, but my two different scanners won't seem to do it. Kind of at a stand-still. I wonder if only the dealer factory scanner is capable of doing this calibration?
