Intake valve failure was created by Sylar
2010 Ford Fusion 3.0L with 190,000km. Developed a misfire on Cyl 4 and diagnosed as compression loss through intake valves. Pulled the head and the valves on Cyl 4 are clearly recessed into the seat. Second pic is a good set of valves on the same head. What could have caused this failure?

Valve recession is the result of erosion of the valve and/or valve seat. Given all other cylinders not being affected an underlying cylinder specific problem may have caused higher combustion pressure. Then again, it just seems to be one of the two INTAKE valves. Typically I see ex valves more prone to this kind of problem s. The attached document deals with valve recession.
