Crank sensor replacement help was created by autojoe
2014 Ford focus 2.0. Just replacing crank sensor. Sensor has two oblong adjustment holes.. I don't understand why can't mark old one replace with a new one. Service procedure has you bring 1 cylinder 45 degrees btdc then remove a bolt theninstall timing peg tool have to buy then turn clock wise till stop then need a metric bolt also a alignment tool also have to buy even though there are just adjustment slots on cps up and down not in and out towards flex plate teeth. I would think if you were to mark old sensor and it was same size could replace it. What am I missing here? I am not disturbing the cam crank correlation. How would pcm know I replaced it with new one with same distance from tip of sensor to teeth of drive plate was off but the oblong slot holes only allow adjustment up and down not in and out. I am old and stupid could someone please help me here. I deeply appreciate it. Thanks in advance

Try it. It will probably work.
Moving the sensor up and down changes the cam to crank SENSOR relationship, so if it's off, the pcm will think the cam and crank relationship is off.
The real problem comes in when you remove the crank pulley which has no key way. Then the alignment tool is critical.
