Mercedes e350cdi cut out-Crank Position Sensor wiring spiked for 20 seconds after and recovered to mer indie garage. They charge £1059.oo pounds and the same day I collected the same thing happened. They said the wires melted and set on fire and they cut wires back a kettle and fitted new cps.

But no point taking the car back to them unless im willing to have new wiring loom. Its an engine out job and about £3000 uk pounds.
Second opinion at another mer garage further away charge me £180- to tell me what I told them.
So I not sure what to do, seems a shame to scrap it.

There are 3 wires on cps and it is extremely close to the exhaust. It was noted that the wires had no exhaust protection as the shield had been disturbed?
This sire I found on youtube and its so informative that im joining.

Has anyone any advice on this, maybe the 3 wires melt together or maybe ground short.

Thank you, Paul.
