Shorted ignition coil secondary winding was created by mfceokeeney
Can a shorted secondary winding cause a failure of an ignition control module or will only a shorted primary do that? Or either/both? Thanks.

I'll take a stab at this. Learning from Paul, do not say always or never. I think a secondary could damage a coil, however I think its from the primary. At the collapse of the primary ramp all that build up of energy with no place to go as in an open plug wire that's the most damaging to a coil.

Hope someone else comments. Would like to hear other views.

A shorted secondary winding CAN kill an ignition module, reason being the interaction between priamry and secondary causing the current through the primary to raise. Have a read if you`re interested:

Try the link again, it should work now. AND: a shorted primary will kill a module as well.
(This is prob. one of the most edited posts on the whole forum, not sure why it was that difficult to get the link going :woohoo: :silly:
