Ford P0341 and p0346 was created by XsleepercellX
I have a 2010 Expedition with a 5.4.Codes P0341 and p0346 camshaft position “A” circuit bank 1 and bank 2. Customer complaint is the car will intermittently shake as if it’s missing if he’s been sitting for a while letting it idle, for example, as he’s sitting in a drive thru waiting for pay for his order. If I’m not mistaken that’s a Variable Reluctance Sensor? which I’m not super familiar with. I graphed the signal using a graphing multimeter (not sure if that’s the way I’m supposed to do it either) and the signal want clean or even at all, had some glitches and dropouts but wasn’t running rough. This engine also has VVT solenoids as well and again correct me if I’m wrong these sensors may affect the reading of the cam sensors. My question is how do I properly test these sensors both cam and vvt solenoids? I’ve watched a few videos on these VR sensors on the premium channel, seems as though I need a scope which I have but I need more training and help with it.. anyone else have a Ford with the same two codes and were able to figure it out please fill me in, thanks

Before going too far down the circuit testing path, I'd suggest backing up and looking at the VCT system. It's been my experience that the P0341/P0346 detection logic is very poorly written for these 5.4L engines. It says 'circuit' in the description, but it's usually anything but.

First question - How's the oil level? If it's off the dipstick, you've found at least part of the problem.

Second question - Can your scan tool monitor VCT PIDs? We're looking for VCT angle, desired, error and pulse width for both banks. This will get you more information faster than watching the CMP signals on a scope, IMO. Not saying that scoping these signals doesn't have value, it just isn't the next easiest step. ;)
