Help us help you. By posting the year, make, model and engine near the beginning of your help request, followed by the symptoms (no start, high idle, misfire etc.) Along with any prevalent Diagnostic Trouble Codes, aka DTCs, other forum members will be able to help you get to a solution more quickly and easily!
Car is way down on power, seems to be running slightly rich, exhaust tips are black, plugs have been pulled and all are black / sooty
Long term fuel trims are slightly negative on both banks around -5%
Apart from the idle being rough and the car lacking any power also the oil temp runs a little higher than normal and the other main symptom is the exhaust note has gone very quiet, the car has a Miltek cat back exhaust and is fairly loud but along with the other symptoms it is now very quiet
Dragging this one back up as the car has been in storage for a while whilst we were building a house so never resolved the issue, exhaust has been off and inspected, no restrictions visible, also pressure test done on exhaust and all looked ok
This has happened twice with the car as the first time it happened the car was already booked in to have the clutch and flywheel changed and on picking the car up it was back to normal, only other thing that was changed whilst the clutch was being done was the crank position sensor as the old one was damaged.
A few months later the car has developed the same symptoms again and still no fault codes, changed the crank position sensor just to rule that out and no change, wondering if it could be a tone ring problem but would think that would be fairly rare!
One of the most notable things both times this has happened is the exhaust note goes extremely quiet, it idles rough and the oil temp seems to run a little higher than it normally would, seems the car is running rich as exhaust is black and also when the plugs were pulled they all seem to be sooty / black
I had a fair amount of service parts to fit after the clutch had be done so fitted all of this anyway and the car was carbon cleaned by walnut blast, so parts replaced were:
New plugs
New coil packs
New PCV valve
Injectors were removed, cleaned and flow tested
New fuel filter
Air filter cleaned
New Air flow meter fitted
The inlet has been smoke tested and seemed ok, car holds vacuum so doesn't appear to be a vacuum leak anywhere and compression check seemed ok.
