Hi there,

I am trying to figure out a way to fix a recent P0343, P0348 errors on my BMW X5 4.4 01.

Basically those errors started happening after I did some valve work. I am in the process of starting the car (I have not attempted yet because of the errors), right now only cranking. What I have done so far:

Firstly, engine is properly timed,

- Replaced the sensors with good ones,
- Tested crankshaft sensor and it tests good (I can see the RPM from my testing computer cranking around 180 rpm),
- I can see using a voltmeter that both sensors send pulse (pull down from 12v to 0 each time it detects the metal part of the pulse sending wheel)
- Tested to see if the signal goes all the way to DME (ECU) and it does,
- Replaced the DME and same errors appeared so the DME should be ok,

Not sure what else I can do at this point. My only concern left is the slightly low battery power as I crank which shows around 11V. Would that affect the DME (ECU) recognizing the signal coming from the sensors?

Thanks in advance for all the help,

Cheers,

Ozzie

After doing some reading about DME and other relay issues, I have replaced both of them as well but no improvement.

Basically, every time I crank the engine I get the same errors.

Any other ideas?

Thanks,

Ozzie

The reason was, each timing wheel was slightly off. After adjustment, errors went away..

Thanks,
