Okay guys I need someone that has play mechanic on the older ones to tell me what the little capacitor thing is on the side of the coil. Looks like the capacitor in the old distributors but it’s just bolted to the side of the coil with a big plug on it.

iTS FOR RADIO STATIC ONLY. WILL RUN JUST FINE WITH OUT IT. ON RARE ACATIONS THAT DEVICE WOULD SHORT OUT CAUSING NO POWER AT THE + SIDE OF THE COIL.

It allows the high voltage AC voltage spikes that occur in the primary after the end the spark when the coil is "ringing" a path to ground.
It is a simple capacitor - capacitors allow an AC voltage to pass but block DC by damping the ringing it suppresses radio interference
