Hello all. A Mitsubishi Pajero io with a 4g93 sohc engine barely idles, revs when warm in P OR N only and is slow to respond, stalls if you add fuel source (carb cleaner) while idling, N light started to blink but not sure if it was doing that before I started working on it. The only code I'm getting is tps circuit (looks good on scan tool data stream) and I pulled the exhaust off still nothing. When cold you have to open the throttle to keep it running. O2 showing rich.
Coil, plugs, wires, MAFs, tps were tried by the previous shop. I'm going after contaminated fuel, valve issues or ckp somehow is out of place. Any thoughts?

Are the fuel trims ok? I would assume they are rich.

Have you verified MAF functionality, if applicable? Have you verified MAP functionality, if applicable?

I had one car act like crap because of a malfunctioning ECT. I suggest back probing it to see if is reading as expected.

BTW, I suggest when testing any of the above sensors to test at the sensor because you don't want to be mislead by substituted values via the scan tool.

When did the car run great last? Since that point, what events have happened, e.g. just driving, accident, tune up, part replacement, ....

Just reading your post again, the blinking N concerns me.

Perhaps the transmission is having an issue that is causing it to put unexpected load on the engine.

I would look into that as well.

Did some thinking. The reason I'm seeing a tps code is the the PCM is seeing the maf showing idle speed air flow while the tps is going up to WOT when we are trying to rev. The PCM is not increasing injector pluse width when throttle is being opened.

The engine seems not to be breathing.

Problem was the key broke on the crank causing timing to go to crap.
