06 GTO issues with BCM and no start was created by kris.sondors
I'm working on a 06 Pontiac GTO. Its my buddies car that I have worked on for years, always doing maintenance and modifications to it. I was working on it for a few weeks doing all kinds of small modifications on it. Every day I would have to move it scrooge the parking lot to work it. The battery was weak and often I would need to use a jumper on it. One day I go start it and it would start and dies after a few seconds. The issue would keep repeating itself so I just ended up pushing it and going to deal with it later. At first I wasn't worried because I had the front end off and the intake wasn't attached 100% so I new it was throwing off the MAF and I could smell it being rich so I figured that was the issue. Well once I started working on the issue of the no start, I realized there was a different issue and the MAF wasn't at fault. I attached everything back together properly, clear the ECU, disconnected the battery and even replaced the MAF with no difference. I did some basic tests and checkef for fuel pressure and everything is fine. The car starts perfectly and idles nice but dies after 2-3 seconds like clock work.
Being a GM guy, the first thing that came to mind is the VATS or the security killing the car. After some research, I found that GTOs had a common issue where the BCM wiring harness would rub on some sheet metal, cutting into the wires and causing BCM issues. Sure enough, I check the wires and the insulation was compromised. And, about 2 years ago, the car had some issues (don't recall exactly which issues) but it ended up being a blown BCM fuse. So, I figured the BCM is my issue. When I hooked my Autel scanner, I have a hard time connecting to the BCM. It takes several tries to connect and even then all I have is live data.
Then I hooked up my laptop to use the Tech2win. With the tech2, I cannot access the BCM module at all, only the ECU and TCM. Now I figured I might try a reflash before I change the BCM (already have a new unit ready to install) and when I connect to the SPS2 to try to flash the BCM, I don't even get the option for the BCM or PIM to BCM.... What gives? I want to replace the BCM but if I can't even access the programming then how can I move forward?
I hope someone has some imput since this is super frustrating and I'm wasting a lot of time and running out of options. Thanks for taking the time to read this!
