Istr these need both cam & crank position signals to start but once running use only the crank so cam sensor droppinh out due to hear soak where to start looking.

This looks like the issue, Thanks. Would it have no spark if the cam sensor was faulty?

last few days have been cool in northern IL, so jeep has been running fine. Finally stopped starting again to test cam sensor. This is what I got:
-5v at supply w/ignition on
-5v at signal w/ignition on
-have 12v at ground when ground to + on battery
-have continuity on ground w/ignition on
-no continuity on ground w/ignition off

This is a cam sensor located in the distributor.
I'm bad, it is a 5.2 liter :)
