Hi y’all!
I am new to the forum but have watched a ton of SD’s videos on No Start problems.
The truck: 1990 Ford F-150 Lariat XLT, 5.0 with 69k original miles. Always garaged, never had problem until last year. Truck left over winter in a barn (with mice), on a battery tender, with fuel stabilizer. No crank, dead battery and dead starter discovered. Towed to garage where battery, starter, distributor, coil, plugs, ignition control module and ignition wires replaced. Engine now cranks, fires for 1-2 secs then dies. Mechanic #1 gave up. Mechanic #2 (another shop) reviewed everything and finally tried changing timing to the 5.8l setting- engine starts but won’t stay lit. Mechanic #2 finally gives up.
Truck has spark, good fuel pressure, good compression, and power and pulse on injectors. 5v ref present at MAP sensor (actual 4.99v).
I am concerned about a timing problem, given the weird response to changing the timing to 5.8l setting.
Give it part throttle on start up if it stays running off idle check idle air control valve. Also check fuel pressure fuel filter and wiring to relays on driver's side fender.
Won’t stay running at any throttle position.
Fuel pressure good.
Now checking all sensors for ground continuity, given 5v reference being present.
Will change fuel filter.
Thanks for the suggestions.
Timing should be set to 10 degrees btdc with spout connector disconnected also check plug wires to see if some were put out of order as well as most common is distributor off a tooth or two or 180 degrees out.
