I was taught years ago in school that downstream o2 sensors are only used for cat. monitioring. After years in the field I found chrysler uses rear o2 to aid in additional fueling adjustments. Well i just found another! 2002 Honda CRV....came in with a lean code and checked everything that would be a typical cause. After banging my head against the wall (metaphorically) . I called a senior honda tech and he said that a weak cat. and bad rear o2 can cause it. I replaced the rear o2 and fuel trims were cut in half! Sooo......how many manufactures use the rear o2 for fueling adjustments as well? Please list what you guys have run into that's similar.

All I know of from YouTube seems to be Toyota. I guess if the trims don't make sense it doesn't hurt to take a peak at the rear o2.

rather than flood the post with videos and not knowing how how to post youtube links and keep the timestamps, so copy paste these in browser:  pastebin.com/raw/CfSZMGuf

I don't have a list of OEM's or specific applications that use downstream fuel control. :( I do feel confident in saying that if the vehicle uses an upstream A/F sensor, it HAS downstream fuel control. If it uses an upstream O2, it may or may not have downstream fuel control. The newer the vehicle, the more likely you are to find downstream control at work.

Most of the vehicles I see daily are 2010 or newer, so I usually just assume every vehicle has it, and add it to the list of suspects. :silly:
