Hi all, my name is Rebecca, I'm 36 YO, single, and I reside in Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia originally from Brooklyn Heights. I drive a Mazda RX8 S2 2009 vintage, which I bought from new, but generally at weekends only. It's not a daily driver.A few weeks back the car overheated, one of the cooling fans stopped working and the coolant boiled over a little out of the overflow tank.. After cooling down the car started fine, no "head gasket" issue (the Rotary doesn't have them, just coolant seals), no white smoke and no coolant loss.Decided to test the cooling fans by jumping their relays on the control ground, 3 in total, one has a 5 pin relay the other 2 are 4 pin type. Unfortunately I jumped the 5 pin fan relay with the 4 pin, then immediately the ignition relay started clicking. on and off very fast. There is a control ground coming from the PCM to the relay which turns on the cooling fans when the car has stopped, ignition off, and the engine compartment temperature is very high after a run. I think the jump fed a 12v into the PCM signal wire, but cannot see the connection with the ignition relay. Now no comm with the PCM, U0073 code, immobilizer light flashing, engine cranks but cannot start as the ignition relay constantly clicking on/off. I checked all the affected modules but no 5v reference in any.I guess the PCM is fried, the 5v ref controller inside?

I saw the ScannerD YouTube vids and thought they were the best educational videos on car wiring diagnosis out there, so here I am, it's partly the reason I joined and also because of the above!

Welcome!

So did you accidentally provide 12v directly to a wire that the pcm provides a ground from? Do you know for sure that the driver was on when you did this? I don't have a diagram in front of me.
