I'm helping out a neighbour with his Golf mk4. It starts and runs and communicates with all modules other than the ecm,
This leads me to believe the ECM communication portion is malfunctioning. Does anybody have any similar experiences in general or with VW K-line (no can diag) vehicles in particular?

does this have an aftermarket radio? apparently thats a common place for a short on the k line but I believe it takes down the whole network. what scan tool is being used? ive had com problems that were specific to scan tools and using another brand tool would communicate without issues. :dry: looking at you launch...

I used a delphi/autocom but now I also have a VCDS lite that I can use. I will try again as soon as I have access to the car again. Thanks, I don't think it even has a radio but if it does its aftermarket.
I have now tried scanning the car with and without the aftermarked blaupunkt stereo installed and still no luck in communicating with the ECM. This time I used vcds and it communicates with the cluster and other miscellaneous modules. I have a used ECU coming in by mail that I can recode for this car .
VCDS displays an error that says it cant sync with the ECM.
