Hello
Help

My car is Nissan Sentra 2008, it having these symptoms.
-Knocking/Pinging
-Overheating (Not Extreme)
-Lack of power
-Poor gas mileage

I curiously checked up my timing (BTDC) via thinkdriver obd and I saw that timing was way too wrong, check up the picture attached.
I hooked the same obd to a friend car and the timing is perfect.
Was at 5 (5~30) according to the obd

Can this be the reason?
Can I set the timing myself? (Diyer)
Any video to assit me?
My car is not having a distributor, I dont know what it have but definitely not a distributor because I know what a distributor is.

Under what conditions is it overheating?
Are there any codes?
On a cool engine, I’d pull the coolant cap and have someone crank it to see if you can see air pushing through the coolant. If you’re head gasket is shot it may effect your decisions on how to proceed.

As i said earlier, the overheating is not EXTREME

And the head is not at a shot, even tried your directive this morning and no problem related.

Have done head job two years ago, i think the mechanic miss the timing or something

the condition in which it overheats is important. Is it while at idle at stop lights? does it get better when driving down the road? at freeway speeds?
The test I mentioned and not seeing anything doesn't completely rule out bad headgaskets as it would have to be pretty bad to really see it there. A small head gasket failure might not be so obvious. I use a pulse sensor in the coolant system as the most accurate way to prove a head gasket failure. beats the accuracy of the chemical test.

It can absolutely be a timing related issue. But I don't think the overheating and the timing problem are related.

I can rule the overheating out of my symptoms.

Can you direct how to test the overheating issue with the pulse sensor ?

Overheating symptoms can be related to btdc, research well on it well.
When btdc is too advanced its cause engine to work harder than OE specs thereby increasing pressure and heat inside the engine.

What codes do you have? What made it go in for head work originally? Do you have a scope, if so, how many channels?

I’ve never seen a vehicle overheat due to timing. But... you put the pulse sensor into the coolant system, disable the injectors so the car won’t start, and crank it.

Issue fixed

That's normal for nissan sentra to have these btc values

Its doesn't use manual setting of timing to run, its uses the camshaft and cranshaft to automatically set timing.

Thanks everyone
