When did you see a waste spark system for the first time, on which car? How long do you think they've been around?

The oldest car I can remember seeing with a waste spark ignition system was my 1987 Buick LeSabre 3800 v6.

2CV was the first car I saw with waste spark. I think they started building those just after WWII, though the one I saw was probably built in the 1970s.

Excellent!

Actually this was my first car ever, 600ccm and 28 hp, I believe. When I bought it came with a spare engine as the one installed just ran on one of the two cylinders.
For those not so familiar: the 2CV was a Citroen, a brand that nowadays is submerged into Stellantis.

Andre Citroen was a french engineer pioneering MANY automotive inventions. The brands logo symbolizes two teeth of sprockets engaging one into the other
