2.8 Iveco daily crank no start was created by Jesse c
Hello everyone I have an Iveco daily 2.8 lt diesel light truck that cranks but won’t start. Manual says it will start an run even if it only has Lost crank sensor or Cam sensor.
After cranking I get a fault for crank sensor exceeding normal range. Customer has replaced this sensor.
Also get immobiliser faults after some cranking cycles but not every time, an they are not always the same.
Live data is all over the place eg.
battery voltage is anywhere between 120vdc to mainly 23vdc on a 12vdc system.
Vehicle speed 50km per hour while parked
Coolant temp -220 degrees Celsius
Battery voltage at ecm an diagnostic plug are 12vdc, have checked power an grounds on ecm.
Customer had started the truck on starter fluid an it ran fine just had check engine light on.
Has anyone came across something like this or have any suggestions as to what could be going on any help would be much appreciated

Ok will try our gscan not Shaw how it will go I have been using the Delphi sd150 with the latest updates an have never had a problem with it but it’s possible. Can a engine start an run even if it has immobiliser problems, I mean if starter fluid has been used

Ok but the the customer drove it to the shop an he then showed me how he got it to start an run. Is it that when the rpm reaches so much it then decides that it will allow fuel?

Yes just to start it. Then it runs on its own with no problems ?
I’m not that familiar with immobiliser systems but thought if it was the immobiliser not letting it start then why dose it decide to run. Does it recognise the cam rpm is high enough to over ride the immobiliser

Alright so this engine is a diesel that has electric injectors an a fuel pressure pump that according to the manual is computer controlled as well. When cranking the engine there is no fuel at injectors. So i thought that the immobiliser or computer was not allowing the pump to build pressure. Thanks for replying two its very appropriated as iam confused as to what system my problem my be in

Sorry for late reply been busy. I found more info on internet manual. Key sends it's secret code to enable start up. Without the secret code it shuts off fuel flow never got to were it shuts it off at but assume its at the fuel pump. Still don't no how it runs i did read that while cranking engine an rpm is faster then stater rpm the ecm synchronise injector pulse. So maybe by that stage it overrides the fuel shut off. What do you think

The immobiliser faults were in relation to transponder, no key code, aerial problem, short cirute in data line. Some of these came on once an never came back. Could go for 3 to 4 crank cycles without any fauts returning.

Alright well it will be a few day's before i get back to that truck as we have stopped for a break over Christmas. I thank you for your help an will get back to you with the outcome of your checks. If i were to get nothing at that plug would that lead towards rpm, an immobiliser issue. Anyway i wish you an your family a merry Christmas

Found a description on they key or transponder. If the two codes correspond the control unit enables starting if not it shuts off fuel flow.
While key is turned on the inline fuel primer runs for about ten seconds like its supposed to. Key light on dash dose come on while cranking but not every time. According to the internet the iveco truck/vans of this age or model have a lot of issues with the immobiliser system. One guy reprograms the ecm without the system.
Sorry for rambling just nervous, don't like not trusting the scan tool an under pressure to make a call. Customer is happy to replace ecm with the immobiliser delete, but like every call like that i don't want to guess
