My 2009 subaru forester has no spark for several seconds while cranking. It may crank until the battery goes dead or it may start right away.
My question is, what is the sequence of events that will cause the coil to fire?

First thing that jumps out at me is do you have adequate cranking voltage to sustain a good spark ? ... J.D.

Check the crank sensor output would be my first check followed by using a test light to check power to coil and if it its getting grounded via the ECU

Is this a new symptom that it will start sometimes or start after extended cranking? Does the jump make it start everytime still? I was thinking that it only started with the jump on from your other thread. Just want to understand the exact symptoms and know if anything has changed there.

Most often I find these issues are found in the primary side of the ignition due to the low voltage. In the secondary side usually at least a few cylinders will fire. A damaged or misaligned crank sensor or poor connection in that area ? I recall finding one hanging by it's wires ! ...J.D.
