Hello my name is Adam i have a 97 honda prelude that i inherited from my best friends passing..
I completed a new water pump, timing belt, and had a new key cut from a reputable locksmith, because
my friend lost the key while the car was being worked on unfortunately. Ive timed it twice and i still have a no start but cranking condition
i double checked all timing marks and it runs rough on starter fluid so i am getting spark. I have been watching your videos all weekend on honda main
relays, noid light tests, and pgmfi functions. the problem i still have is theres no injector pulse at all 4 injectors but i do have constant 12 volts at all injectors when key is on. I have verified that the main relay works because theres plenty of fuel pressure at all times. I also took the fuel rail off to visiually inspect the injectors all 4 operate with an 8 volt battery and have been cleaned but for some reason they will not flash the ground pulse on all 4 injectors. I checked all engine grounds especially one at thermostat housing. is there a way i could diagnose this from the ecu to see if its sending the ground pulse at all? This has gotten me bananas ive never had such trouble with a honda before i watched your noid light video and pgmfi/ relay videos. the relay primes the pump, there are no trouble codes but it hasnt ran for very long just briefly with starting fluid it has a dead battery but ive been jumping it with a good source everything seems to click and operate except for the injector ground pulse all 4 at once. can you please help as this was my best friends pride and joy, he just passed away and i couldnt think of a better way to show respect by putting that car back on the road. thnks scannerdanner your my only hope i need ideas i have a voltmeter and testlight.
Please respond either on fb or my number is 3147641331. whats weird is that the main relay will click once to prime pump but as im cranking the car the relay just clicks over and over again. got compression runs rough on started fluid can i check for ckp/tdc function please help as im an avid fan and car enthusiast

Hey adam, welcome to the forums! :cheer: I moved this topic to the Repair section, where it'll get more views and replies.

With lack of injector pulse, my very first thought is an immobilizer problem. Especially since a key has been replaced. Two things you need to check:

1.) What does the check engine light do when you turn the key on? Should turn on for two seconds and go out.

2.) What does the green key light do when you turn the key on, and during cranking?

Thank you for your prompt response. the c.e.l. comes on with the key on position 2 and then goes away. the green key light does the exact same, it comes on on key position 2 and goes away after a few seconds and stays off while cranking engine. i also am getting fuel pressure and 12 volts to every injector i just cant get the ground pulse on any of them. i just recently put in a new battery, when i did so it started but then imediately died. then i wasnt able to reproduce it. i thought if it was the immobilizer it wouldnt crank or power the fuel pump... ive got spark and compression. is there a way to trace that ground pulse lead from the injector clip to the ecu to see if they are communicating. I also thought it might be the ckp/tdc sensor but im getting an rpm signal when i fired it up on starter fluid. no codes so far.... a dealer manual came in today for the prelude im going to try and diagnose it with those diagrams. if block A on the ecu and pins 1-4 are the injectors shouldnt i beable to test for a ground pulse at the ecu itself with a test light on 12volts and probe for that ground pulse just like you would do at the injector but at the ecu wires. everything seems to be operational ive double checked timing, grounds, fuel pressure, 12 volts at injectors, even removed them and they operate just fine when i cleaned them, thanks for your advice i greatly appreciate it and this car has been down for too long and id hate to start throwing parts at it and not knowing why the ecu fails to send the ground pulse

Ok im buying a new volt meter my old radio shack model died. After reviewing the honda electrical troubleshooting manual... Im going to try and test the cylinder psition sensor, crankshaft position sensor, and tdc sensor. Which i believe are vital to injection pulse.

Ok for the engine on the emissions label it will say one of the ones i asked about. Or does the valve cover say vtec on it? This way i can help with tests and supply correct wire colors to probe

Tyler was correct all along. I finally go the locksmith to come back and he reprogrammed it and now it starts! Just got a 4 th cylinder mis code and another code pending, p1399 raandom misfire, time for a tune up.....

Update the prelude is running great. I comlpleted a valve adjustment and oil change cleaned out the vtec solenoid 130 miles no cel. Yet thnx for your help.
