97 MB e420 sat for many months. Mice chewed wires going to computer and ECM. Very knowledgeable mechanic reconnected wires, car only starts intermittently now. Computer signal not being received by ECM. Mechanic feels that ECM is shot, fuel pump will not turn on, etc. (they are not talking to each other) suggests sending ECM out to get donor/clone ECM cleared and then reprogrammed with my specific car's vin# etc since MB does it that way for security. That costs $600. I found a family owned place , SIA Electronics in Tilden, Illinois that will fix the ECM for $220.....if they can't fix it, they charge $15 for return shipping. I am not knowledgeable about this stuff; however, I think that my idea makes sense. In other words, I don't think I need a new ECM, I feel that my current one has a fixable problem. What does the expert forum think? Thank You
I would look more at the harness in places where mice have packed nuts or insulation in to see if they got wiring in other places. Since they got into one spot would make sense they have found their way into others. Load test each wire with ecm disconected to each sensor and starter. Cheap peace of mind in my opinion
