Hi guys.Navara D40 V6 VQ Type 1 engine.The engine was replaced by the mechanics. Since then the car doesn't start.We found no spark and no injector signals while cranking.Checked all the signals on the engine ECU, found left bank cam signal to be erratic (elongated highs), so replaced the cam sensor and the signal became good. We also found that the two crank signals line up with each other as per a known good one from the Picoscope database, but they don't line up with the crank. The cam signal highs should fall into the crank gap. These ones fall into the middle of the signal block.If you look at the attached images, on the blue crank signal we have 3 blocks in 360 degrees. By my rough calculation, if one block is 120 degrees and our cam signal falls in the middle of the block, then we are about 60 degrees out.I thought that it is not good, but we should still have spark and injector signals, even though they wouldn't be correctly timed, so the engine wouldn't start, but we should have spark.We replaced the engine ECU. Still no spark or injectors. Has anybody seen something like when the crank-cam correlation is off by about 60 degrees, the ECU wouldn't be able to calculate the ignition and injector signals, so we wouldn't have spark and injection?Many thanks,Immy

From what I understand, a Navara is another name for a Frontier, right? Guessing you're working on what we know as a VQ35 or VQ40.

I can tell you from working on other Nissan makes that they will absolutely kill spark AND injection pulse if the cam and crank signals don't line up exactly the way the PCM wants them to. You can look at the cam timing PIDs in the scan data to confirm that the PCM is seeing a timing issue.

Which capture is yours after CMP sensor replacement? The Picoscope 7 one, if I had to guess.

Because this all started after engine replacement, I gotta wonder about the flywheel/flexplate, since the crankshaft reluctor is integral to it. I have no idea about your Navara, but I know to a certainty that the flexplate for VQ35's can be bolted up out of time with the crank. ;) I figure VQ40's are probably the same.

There's a dowel pin hole in the crank, but you CAN install the flywheel/flexplate in the wrong place anyway. The VQ's I've seen have eight crank bolt holes, so being one off would equal 45 crank degrees. Two would be 90 degrees. I'm gonna guess yours is off one hole, but it doesn't really matter. If it's off, the engine (or transmission, I guess) is coming back out.

Hi Tyler.
You are right. My after sensor replacement signal is the Picoscope 7 one with the good red signal (which looks the same as the green one).

Many thanks for clearing it up for me. I have the factory workshop manual and even that did not mention anything about it. Or at least I couldn't find it.

If I ever find out how the story ends, I will let you know.
