2003 Toyota Corolla LE Auto 1.8L
I have been hunting a problem where the EFI 15A fuse would blow at random times. Lots of thoughts and theories but find the true source was painful
Finally, I traced the source to a rubbed wire at the transmission dip stick support. Happy day!
Repaired the wire, moved the dip stick and the car started and ran without blowing the fuse! Still a happy day. Then, new problems started:
I am using an Actron CP9575 OBDII AutoScanner ( actron.com/updates-downloads ). It is a decent, basic tool purchased to reset codes back before I knew what I was doing.
New problems:
rough idle
short term fuel trim: 0.0 when cold and 19.5 once warm
long term fuel trim: 0.0 to 18.8, fluctuations
O2S1: 0.0
O2S2: 0.0
The car ran well before it started blowing fuses.
I have no desire to before a parts changer. Besides, I don't know where to start.
I am looking for a source of good data points for the vehicle. Any ideas?
Thanks, James.

Positive fuel trims leans to a vacuum leak. Check for rips or cracks in intake tubing from air box to throttle body, squirt water around intake and listen for sucking sounds and rpm drop.

Hi everyone,
You should check O2 readings again also. That voltage mean O2 signal could be shorted to ground.
Unpluging O2 sensors, check bias voltage with scanner or voltmeter.

Just realised if your injector fuse is blowing at random times you might have a shorted injector or wiring issue otherwise your pcm injector driver is toast/ on the way out for an injector or bank of injectors depending on design. Would start with wiring (looking for bare wiring rub through spots etc), then ohm injectors then test injector drivers.
Edit:
Never mind on the wiring part still should check injectors and injector drivers.

Thanks for the tip. I check for vacuum leaks but found nothing definite. Now I have huge white clouds of smoke at start up and again when revving once warm. I'm inclined to two it to a shop before I ruin the cat.

Any chance you reversed some vacuum lines while repairing the shorted wire?
I seem to remember it's possible to cross up the PCV hoses with the EVAP or brake booster. It's especially easy to do after reinstalling the air filter box, which you may have removed to repair the shorted wire. That'd explain your lean trims, and possibly the smoke.

Agreed and good point. This car has two hoses that I took off: one goes from the valve cover to the intake manifold and the second has the PCV valve and runs to the throttle body. The hoses are molded and only fit one way but they are old and cracked on the ends. I fully intend to replace them when I'm sure which is the problem child. I'm leaning towards the one with the PCV.
