Im working on rebuilding a car and for some reason the roof stopped opening after battery was disconnected for an extended period of time. Also when you open and close door the windows should drop maybe an inch thats no longer working either. I have vcds and when i do a capacitor discharge the windows will start working again but as soon as i do a vehicle scan the windows stop working. Any ideas?

You need to do the battery relearn procedure with a capable scan tool. Or have the dealer do it if you do not.

I have VCDS I believe it lets me code the battery. I saw a video on youtube that speaks about it and how to do it. I will try in the morning.

Do the windows or the convertible top have to be relearned as well?

I believe so if it is not part of the battery relearn but typically it is part of it.

If your scantool can do battery relearn it will be in the same section otherwise a subscription to Mitchell or alldata will have it in there. Also note I edited my prior response as the Windows and such typically are calibrated with the battery relearn procedure.
