This is one place that the GMC engine has with a fusible link also . Going from the alternator to the positive side of the battery and the starter

So I had everything hooked up right by the diagram. I had to hook it up like that, after I had originally messed up the positive battery cable somehow.

as a hail marry attempt I had replaced the ignition switch previously. and that was what was causing my dash lights and battery light to come on.

as of right now the truck is running again.
