1.6L, auto trans. cranking no-start was intermittent, now permanent. Pulled plug wires leading back to each of the two coil packs. No spark on either. Checked for power and computer-controlled ground at inputs to the coils. Power and grounds at input good. There is also heavy corrosion in one hole on each of the two coils. Cleaned corrosion and still no spark. I am leaning toward calling the coils bad but the diagram also shows there is a condenser in the circuit. How do I test a condenser? Thx guys, Pop

I honestly don't know. :( But I really doubt that the cause of your no start. The condenser is there for RFI/noise suppression, IIRC. If it was open, you just end up with more RFI. If it was shorted, you'd have a popped fuse.

If the power and control to each coil is good, then you're done. B) Use an incandescent test light on each, if you haven't already.

Sorry I forgot to update. New coils fixed problem but now the cheap plastic coil input wire connects have gone bad. Will post followup question in another thread.

You probably do. Condenser is the old name for a capacitor, which has stuck around in automotive terminology way longer than it did anywhere else.
