I have a new-to-me 2009 MINI Cooper S (R56) that I'm trying to work through it's issues. My ODB2 sensor does not seem to work on it, so I've ordered another, but it's not in yet.

The engine light is always on and the oil light is sometimes on. The oil level looks to be about a quart over-full.

Sometimes the car starts right up. Sometimes it doesn't. When is starts, the Tach moves while cranking and once running. When it doesn't start the Tach does not move while cranking and relay K6300 (R1) buzzes. It engages and disengages rapidly. Perhaps 5 times a second?

If I pull the relay, and replace it and then quickly try starting again, the car starts (at least so far). My previous solution was to disconnect the battery for 10 minutes and then reconnect and retry. I believe this resets the DME completely.

It seems to have a harder time starting when warm. ie: I get home, turn it off, and try restarting immediately and often get the crank-no-start behaviour.

Where can I find schematics for this car? I don't know if the power to the relay is too low to be stable or if the power is oscillating.

The dealer wants to replace the DME/ACU for $2k and they do NOT guarantee that will fix the issue.

I've not yet pulled the DME to visually inspect inside it. The contacts to the DME look ok, no visible water damage, etc. I've done surface mount electronics work on phones and other equipment, but I don't have any idea how to power up a DME on a bench to test it, so I'll be testing in the car. :)

I don't have a portable scope, and I think that might be handy to test things like crank rotation sensors. Looking for recommendations.

I sent the DME and CAS off to the-ecu-pro.com and they confirmed a fault with the power supply inside the DME. They obtained a used DME, and cloned mine. We had some issues with the key fob in shipping, so I had to have a new fob programmed. After this, the car is running fine. Still having some codes present and tracking those down, but the jittering relay was definitely the DME power supply.
