Help us help you. I own a 2000 Wrangler with 4.0L engine, auto transmission. I have recently had the motor rebuilt. I installed the engine and when I first started the engine it ran for a few minutes, as I was trying to break it in. Then it threw codes P0351, P0352, and P0353 and shutdown the engine. These are the codes for coil pack A, B , and C respectively.
The jeep will not start with these codes in memory. If I clear the codes, the Jeep will start and run great for 5 seconds. Then you can feel the coil packs shutdown one at a time, the check engine light comes on, then the computer shuts down the engine. I have changed enough parts to point me in the direction of the wiring harness.
I am asking for help on what to check next and how to check it.
Should I just find a good local mechanic with the proper equipment to scope it and find the problem?
This screams timing problem, IMO. Not with the chain, necessarily, but with the cam synchronizer.
Don't ask me how I know, but it's extremely easy to get the synchronizer out of time during installation. It doesn't make sense that a CKP/CMP correlation problem would cause P035X codes, right? But it will.
If you have a dual trace lab scope, or can get your hands on one, you can confirm this problem yourself. They're surprisingly affordable. Without one, you're down to double and triple checking the CMP installation.
