Need help from scannerdanner... was created by xcursion88
2006 Equinox
3.4 engine
Sealed one unit coil..not the 3 individual coils...
Crank no spark problem.
New crank sensor as per the customer.
It checked out ok.

My question is this...
In testing the cam sensor wiring
KOEO (key on engine off)
Red white stripe is 12 volt key on.
Black wire is ground.
Both of these test out ok.
I've back probed the Brownish/ white stripe wire...signal wire...and with a test light hooked up to the positive battery terminal and I just tap the probe I get a camshaft engine rpm signal on the Snap on Triton D8.
Right next to that PID is a
cam signal present (yes or no)
When tapping that probe I can NOT get the signal present to change to yes. I can get an increment reading on the rpm by touching that probe with my hot test light but it will not change to a yes for cam signal present.

If it's detecting an rpm from touching that probe how is not getting a cam signal present?

This test I'm doing is plugged into the sensor with the sensor installed.

The only code on this vehicle is a p0727 which shouldn't have anything to do with spark. (Emphasize Shouldn't * as anything at this point is possible lol)
I've tried two good known coils.
The owner says the CKP and I see an rpm signal from it on the Teuton D8

Thank you for any and all replies.

Since you do get an RPM response, I wouldn't be focused any longer on the CAM yes/no PID. It may need cam and crank signals for that PID to change to yes?
What does it show cranking?
Do you have a scope to check the cam signal itself?
If not, your voltmeter may help us. That cam signal will be an average of the square wave.

I agree with Paul, don't sweat the Cam Signal Present PID for now. I'd stay focused on if the Engine RPM and CMP RPM signals change during cranking.

Does the ignition coil pack have power KOEO and KOEC?

Yes. KOEO both power and ground are present.
Yes ....KOEC both power and ground are present.

While on the scan tool and while cranking
I get a 24x crank sensor reading of around 196 RPM while cranking.
The CAM sensor rpm goes up to around 696-700 rpm while cranking.
The engine speed(rpm) shows zero while cranking. Perhaps it wont do anything until it's running?!.?!

I say again the one lone code on this is a P0727 which I know is RPM transmission related but I've been doubting its relation to a no spark condition.
