Intermediate cranking but no start was created by Jonathan Haffer
2000 Honda CR-V 2.0 , Intermediate cranking no start condition, I’ve replaced the ignition coil assembly, on that model the cam/ crank signal lives in the ignition coil assembly, it has spark and fuel pressure when condition happens,I also did a cranking compression test on all the cylinders, all are reading 150lbs per cylinder give or take 2 lbs, any suggestions on direction guys?

By intermediate, did you mean intermittent? Also, when you say you replaced the ignition coil assembly, are you actually referring to the distributor assembly?

The next time you get it to act up, try stepping on the throttle while cranking. If the engine now starts, you can start looking for an IAC that's sticking closed.

Are you sure you have enough fuel pressure ? With these older Hondas the main fuel pump relay is always the prime suspect solderedjwhich can joints on the relay circuit boards suffer from fatigue cracks , but it the fuel pump is high on the list of suspects.

Quick and dirty test is when it fails to start feed some propane or carb cleaner into the intake if the engine runs or shows signs of starting it is a fuel problem.

Yes intermittent and distributor , wot doesn’t help while cranking either, but it will start after setting for around 30 minutes

Gotcha. Andy is likely on the right track with the PGM-FI relay. Are you positive the fuel pump is working during the no start? Another quick and dirty test is to open palm slap the lower dash panel during cranking. If the engine immediately starts, you likely jarred the relay back to life. ;)

Intermittent no start solved! after looking into history codes I discovered an ECT code, I pulled the volts and temp pid up on my verus and found that the readings was in range ,but at that time the engine would start, after letting it set in the shop all day and starting it every 30m or so it finally wouldn’t start, immediately I focused on my ECT pid and discovered that my temp read 55 degrees, I then temp gunned the temp sensor and read 150, Boom bad sensor, this one was a hard one to find, I appreciate everyone’s input.
