Just wanted to share a weird one that got me the other day.
No hazards and customer doesn't know how long they haven't worked.
This is a BCM/Meter controlled set up, no flasher.
While checking input on scantool, I had none when I pushed the switch and was able to activate the lights with the scantool, so I'm thinking bad switch or wire to ground or BCM.
This is a pull down switch design. Service info says there should be 5v with the switch open and 0v closed. I had 10.8v at the BCM. Back probing the BCM and providing ground, the hazards work. 10.8v there was odd, but have heard of service info having incorrect voltage values at control units, so I moved on, still holding on my original path.
Checked for power on all three wires at the switch and had none, also had no continuity to ground on any wires. Hmm. Checked continuity from BCM to all three wires and had none. An open on two wires for this circuit? Ok. I ran a new wire from the BCM to the switch and a new ground, touched them together and flashers worked. Yay. Plugged the switch back in, still didn't work. Bad switch too? Nope...
Checked service manual for pin out at the switch. It said there were only two wires, I had three, and the colors didn't match up. The pins were also in different positions, so pushing the switch wasn't completing the circuit with the pins out of place.
I checked continuity on the switch pins when the putting was pushed to see where the wires needed to go, moved one of the pins and it worked.
What the hell? We had no record of any harness work, but maybe it was done somewhere else? I don't know.

:lol: I wonder if this was a product of an aftermarket alarm/remote start system? Some goofball at a stereo shop saw 10ish volts on a wire and figured that's a hot source. Or, the instructions directed them to get into the hazard circuit so the remote start/alarm could run the hazards on its own.
How the harness grew an extra wire, or why the pins were playing musical chairs, I have no idea. :silly:

I forgot to mention that the only aftermarket part I found that could be a possibility was a trailer brake. I have no idea how those work but thought lights could be involved. The harness is still weird.
