P0340 cmp code 2006 dodge stratus 2.4 engine was created by bizz2222
My question is what works the cmp sensor I know it's the end of the cam but i took off the cmp sensor and turned car over and It didn't look like it spun is there something the between the cam and the cmp sensor ? The car cranks but won't start I have a crank signal when turning engine over but no cmp signal and no spark at coil I put a new cmp sensor on and got spark at coil and still no start, I guess tomorrow gonna look into the timing belt just didn't think it was the timing belt seams to be turning over ok and no back firing and the only code I have is the p0340 cmp code.

if you now have spark, you do not need to check the timing unless the engine is turning over irregularly or you did something previously with the timing. check for spark at each plug... if spark, check for fuel. Cam sensor controls the timing and fuel.
starting in the middle of a repair makes it hard to diagnose a problem. If you just had a P0340 and you replaced the cam sensor you should be up and running.
cam sensor passes by spots on the cam sprocket which turns on and off the cam signal to the pcm which in turn fires the coils and injectors. (simplistic explanation).

Being wrong doesn't bother me, it's being right and not understanding why that does

I'm not sure what it looks like on this engine, but if you are saying the cam isn't moving with the timing belt on while turning the crank, I saw a Passat with a sheet pin missing on the actuator. The bolt that holds it on must have let it slip and broke the sheer pin. This prevented the cam from turning, while I turned the crank.
