I have this Exterra 3.3 truck came in with engine noise lower end. Customer decided to put a junk yard engine thing is now it won't start. I have fuel , compression and spark. I do think the spark is week but it did run when it got in so I don't think it's a distributor problem. I have not checked how much compression because it doesn't sound like that is the problem. When I crank the engine and floor the gas I get a little popping in the intake and I'm thinking timing. Here is a pic of the cam/crk signals hope I did it right this time. This engine came out of a 03 frontier don't know if the cam/crk gears the same . My next step is I'm going to remove the trans and check the teeth on the flex plate to see if there is a difference while I wait for your help.

You think the injectors are varnished shut from sitting in the junk yard? Try running it on alternative fuel? I will have to check iatn for a known cam and crank waveform

Cheryl thank you for your response, I put all the old parts. The injectos work on the old engine so I dont think that is the problem. Thank you though.

Some of the crank sensors on those trucks have to be indexed with a dowel or mark on the flywheel or it won't know where tdc is. Is it possible that it's off?

Tutti57 thank you for your help I replaced the flex plate with the old one today and the truck stared. The flex plate was a little bent and it was messing with the timing. Thank you all for your help.
