I've learned to carry a come-along these days easier to just unbolt the motor mounts and just move it over with a come- along to see or reach in when possible..
As far as your problem I have a 06 Crown Vic police Interceptor from the X shierff of our county (his service vehicle retired with him) for free because the he was told engine replacement was the only option after he had already spent concederable money at two previous shops..
It was a vacum leak
A leaking PVS elbow they changed everything but the $12 elbow connection
it goes from throttle body to intake
I drove it home from his driveway that same day ,now when I get a Ford with similar problems I check the vacume connections
Extra good them Ford's like to leak I've noticed that the rubber is of less quality..
But that's another forum.
Make sure you check during a smoke test its not moving..
Worn Motor mounts probably didn't help either..
Hope it helps
